Low-maintenance doesn't mean zero-maintenance. Here's what caring for a WPC deck actually involves - and why it's still significantly less work than timber.
Weekly: Sweep or Blow
Leaves, dust, and debris collect between boards. A quick sweep or leaf-blower pass keeps the surface clean and prevents organic matter from breaking down in the gaps. This takes about five minutes for an average deck.
Monthly: Hose Down
A garden hose with a standard nozzle removes surface dirt and pollen. No pressure washer needed - WPC doesn't absorb water, so dirt sits on the surface rather than penetrating.
Seasonally: Mild Wash
Every few months, especially after pollen season or near the coast, wash with a mild detergent and a soft-bristle broom. Avoid harsh chemicals - they're unnecessary and can dull the surface sheen over time.
Yearly: Gap Check
Check that drainage gaps between boards remain clear. In heavily treed areas, accumulated leaf litter can block water flow. Clear any blockages with a thin tool or strong spray.
What You Never Need to Do
No sanding. No oiling. No painting. No sealing. No replacing splintered boards. No treating for termites. This is where WPC fundamentally differs from timber - and where the time savings genuinely add up.
